Celebration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Dieppe
Normandy commemorates in 2024 the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings and the Battle of Normandy, a turning point that was decisive in the Second World War.
On September 1, 1944, Dieppe was liberated by land by the troops of the 2nd Canadian Division. However, the latter had suffered a heavy price 2 years earlier during Operation Jubilee and the failed raid on the Dieppe beaches.
They then discovered a city abandoned by the Nazis. The population welcomed the Canadian troops with jubilation and a huge parade was organized a few days later.
If you are a history buff, come and participate on September 1 in the duties of remembrance and attend the ceremonies and tributes for this historic day of reflection.
Several events will take place in Dieppe such as a wreath laying at the stele of railway workers at war, at the stele of victims of Nazism in François Mitterrand Park and at the war memorial.
On the occasion of this commemoration, the Dieppe Philatelic Association will also be offering stamps affixed to old postcards for sale on 31 August.
