Dieppe Castle and Museum

A true emblem of the city, Dieppe Castle has been a museum since 1923. It recounts the maritime history of the city and its port, which was for a long time the heart of Dieppe.

Easily accessible from La Tour Aux Crabes (a 15-minute walk through the city center streets), the museum houses permanent collections that change regularly and offers themed temporary exhibitions.

A fortified castle steeped in history in Dieppe

Perched on the western cliff, Dieppe Castle has dominated the city since the 14th century.
Initially built to strengthen the coastal defenses after the Hundred Years' War, it has evolved over the centuries, blending medieval structures with more recent additions.
Its ramparts, massive towers, and strategic location still bear witness today to its essential military role against invasions from the English Channel.

All around the site, information panels will help you better understand the role of Dieppe Castle in the history of Dieppe and its importance in protecting the port and its inhabitants.

An art and history museum with exceptional collections

A designated "Musée de France," the castle museum houses more than 20,000 objects, approximately 2,000 of which are on permanent display in a dozen rooms. You will discover, among other things, the maritime history of Dieppe, an exceptional collection of carved ivories, internationally renowned, and the largest collection of prints by Georges Braque!
Two rooms are also dedicated to temporary exhibitions, regularly offering new discoveries and a different way to explore Dieppe's heritage.
Don't forget to enjoy a walk along the ramparts: a perfect opportunity to admire Dieppe from above… and take home some magnificent photos.
